3 To stitch the flowers, begin by outlining the upper portion of each petal with split stitch.

4 Using the line of split stitch as your starting point, add a row of long and short stitches around each petal. Angle your stitches slightly toward the base of the petal as you work your way around.

TIP Be sure your garment is clean and dry before you begin stitching, and press if necessary. TIP

5 If you wish, switch the thread color as you move toward the center and continue filling each petal with long and short stitches, keeping the stitches approximately the same length as the long stitches from the first row.
